Project Update: Brave Tern commences WTG installation at Global Tech I

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s Brave Tern has installed its first AREVA M5000 WTG on the Global Tech I wind farm in the German Bight in the North Sea.

The Global Tech I wind farm is due to be completed this summer and will consist of 80 AREVA wind turbines in total.

The Brave Tern entered the project in late December 2013 for loading from Bremerhaven and the first tower and nacelle was fully installed earlier this month.

In total, the vessel will install a further 44 WTG’s on Global Tech I, following the recently announced extension to her existing work, taking the contract from 30-45 WTG’s.

The Brave Tern is a flexible vessel for the project with her 3200m² deck area allowing for transportation of 4 sets of complete towers and nacelles.

This is Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s third installation project in the German Bight since the Brave Tern and her sister vessel Bold Tern were launched in 2012/13.
