Fred. Olsen Windcarrier installs final turbines on world’s largest offshore wind farm

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up installation vessel Bold Tern successfully installed turbine number 91 on Hornsea One offshore wind farm on 25 September 2019. This marked the end of the project for Bold Tern.

"This has been a great team effort from all involved parties."

Installation of the Siemens Gamesa SWT-7.0-154 turbines began 5 February 2019 and have been installed in tandem by Bold Tern and DEME’s Sea Challenger.

Duncan Clark, Ørsted Programme Director for Hornsea One said: “The milestone of this last turbine being installed only nine months after the first one was erected is just one small part of this record-breaking project. Hornsea One has truly paved the way for the next generation of offshore wind farms." He continued: “We have benefitted from fantastic working relationships with contractors and suppliers, and that includes vessel providers who have maintained a constant stream of communication to ensure that turbine installation has been concluded on time and within budget.”

“In close cooperation with our client Ørsted and installation contractor Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, we have installed 91 turbines safely and efficiently on the Hornsea One Offshore Wind Farm. This has been a great team effort from all involved parties. I am proud and humbled to have been part of this team of dedicated and professional persons who have delivered services of top quality throughout the different phases of the project to meet our client’s expectations. The installation vessel Bold Tern has had an excellent performance during the operational phase with a minimum of downtime”, said Hans-Petter Austad, Project Manager in Fred. Olsen Windcarrier.
