Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has been awarded the transport and installation contract for 56 Vestas 8MW turbines at the Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind farm.
Borkum Riffgrund is located 57km from shore in the German Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and installation is set to commence in the second quarter of 2018. The 450MW wind farm will power 460,000 homes annually once completed.
“This is our second contract signed with DONG Energy and our first project installing the Vestas 8MW turbines, it is an exciting project and one we are pleased to have won,” said Even Larsen, Head of Commercial and Projects.
Fred. Olsen Windcarrier recently upgraded Brave Tern to be able to handle the coming ‘multi MW’ turbines. Sister vessel Bold Tern is currently undergoing the same modifications with completion in July.
