Day of the Seafarer

This year’s IMO Day of the Seafarer campaign calls for a Fair Future for Seafarers. The campaign builds upon the 2020 campaign that seafarers should be recognized as key workers.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier is committed to safety. We believe in upholding fair working practices, with a notable focus on the work environment and gender diversity.

One of the key elements to a successful and happy workforce is not only found in salary and workplace but in work-life balance and security in life at home. For our seafarers, family comes first.

In our own operating areas, quarantines and border closures continue to have an impact on our seafaring colleagues’ security and well being as they are still exposed to uncertainty around when they can go home – and when they can go to work. Their families and loved ones are exposed to unnecessary stress and uncertainty when free movement is severely hampered or suspended. Continued, ongoing disregard for seafarers by national governments across the world not only impacts individual shipping businesses but the very livelihoods and well-being of the people running those ships.

We continue our work to provide a safe and excellent place to work, where employees can thrive. We support the IMO campaign for a fair future for seafarers and raise our voice in the call for seafarers to be recognized as key workers, whose fair future depends upon freedom of movement to join and disembark vessels around the world.
