Fred. Olsen Windcarrier reaches halfway point on Borkum Riffgrund II

Saturday 30 June, the 28th MHI Vestas 8MW turbine was installed by Bold Tern on Borkum Riffgrund II, marking the halfway milestone.

A coordinated solution-oriented approach from all parts has allowed operations to continually adapt and improve, allowing Fred. Olsen Windcarrier to surpass the performance expectations of our client.

The fastest installation of four turbines on this project was done in just four days. And the fastest installation of one turbine was done in less than 15 hours.

In the beginning of June, Bold Tern installed the first MHI Vestas 8MW turbine on a suction bucket jacket foundation. In addition to the 20 suction bucket jacket foundations, the rest of the turbines will be mounted on 36 monopile foundations.

The 450MW Borkum Riffgrund II offshore wind farm is located some 57 kilometres off the northwest coast of Germany and is scheduled for commissioning in 2019. It will power 160,000 German households annually once completed. These are the first 8MW turbines delivered to Germany.
